Falling in love comes as easily to Sam Marlow as it does to the object of his affections Billie Bennett. Though the twists and turns of their on then off again courtship are what make this story such an hilarious read! Full of wild and crazy characters, and told by an occasionally intrusive narrator, I enjoyed every moment in their company.
It was my first experience of Wodehouse. His era was captured and was refreshingly delightful. The English writers are different.
This book is a romantic comedy that strikes just the right balance between silliness and humor. Although the outcome is known from the beginning and the characters are stereotyped, reading this book is still very enjoyable from start to finish.
Another humorous Wodehouse novel set on an Atlantic steamship, and in England. Sam Marlowe is returning to England on the R. M. S. Atlantic a liner. He sees a beautiful young woman,and instantly falls for her, Wilamena or Billie Bennett. There is competition for her in the person of an old family friend. Sam follows her around on the ship, and in England after their arrival. The romance is on and off and very funny as only Wodehouse can be. All of the characters are very lightweight, but entertaining. Wodehouse writes excellent humor which wears well over the years.
If you enjoy British humor, you will find PG Wodehouse delightful. Boy finds girl; boy loses girl; girl finds other boy; girl finds yet another boy; relatives and friends get involved, etc.; all’s well that ends well. In other words, typical Wodehouse wackiness. As I said, delightful, but if Brit wit is not your cup of tea, as it were, skip this.
Not the very best Wodehouse, but an enjoyable read. The writing is superior, the story is laugh out loud funny, but the characters are all so unlikeable. There is not one single likeable character in the whole book, and by the end you don't really care who gets which girl because you don't like any of them.
Someone too a perfectly good Wodehouse boo, copied it with a tiny font, so the words an not be seen, bound it into a much too small boo format and tried to pas this cut and pasted travesty off as a real book. It is illegible and a terrible cut and paste job...totally unable to decipher the letters as they get smashed-into the boo's margins and binding. I reported this terrible cut and paste job to , who should ban this seller forever.
