A holiday fling forges the bond of a lifetime.

In Paris on business, Londoner Nigel is the target of a practical joke by French colleagues. He’s embarrassed to discover the night spot they sent him to is a drag cabaret. But when a sultry performer seems to be singing right to him, awakening his hidden desires, he can’t bring himself to leave.

Chanteuse Jay often brings home new friends after a night at the club, but he’s never had one quite like Nigel. The buttoned up banker hides a poetic and passionate nature. These opposites spend one unforgettable night on a rooftop under starry skies and part of the following day at the ground breaking 1901 Paris Exposition. But all holidays must end.

Each man relives those precious moments until one day Jay surprises Nigel by visiting him in England. Can the exotic songbird survive a caged existence, or will Nigel be brave enough to shed his respectability and fly away with his beloved?

Another brilliant book by the authors. Yet again they brought together two men in opposite situations and made it plausible for them to be together. The Nigel is the perfect British banker. Meeting Jay opens his eyes to the truth about himself and eventually his life. Jay is completely aware of who he is and where he belongs. He falls for his adorable virgin but can't in any way or form fit into the bankers life. The genius of this writing is in how they do have their happy ever after. One side note, Jay is a singer in drag, both feminine and masculine. I've read many complaints about the feminine guy being too girly or the masculine side being hard to believe. Not in this case. Jay is believable as both a female on stage and a man in public. Another master work.

The Bohemian and the Banker edition by Bonnie Dee Summer Devon Romance eBooks Reviews

Finding himself the butt of a rather rude joke while on a business trip to Paris, Nigel Warren decides that, since no one saw him in the all-male cabaret then no harm done, right? Not quite. All it takes is one glimpse of Jean Michel and he’s done for. Inexplicably drawn to this diva in drag, Nigel’s hopes and dreams are completely shaken up and rearranged. But will one night ever be enough?

Nigel Warren could not have had a worse trick pulled on him. Quiet, restrained, and overly discreet, a drag cabaret isn’t exactly his idea of a perfect night out. However, when he decides to relax and just enjoy himself, I think I fell a little bit in love with this poor, sad soul. As much as I adore historical novels, one of the things that always upsets me is that good, kind men like Nigel are forced to keep their proclivities to themselves and either sneak around or live a life of misery. I was certain that, even if he only got one night with Jay, it would be the best thing to happen to him. Simply because he got to be exactly who he really was for that one night.

Jean Michel – better known as Jay – is the complete opposite of Nigel. A true free spirit, he’s intrigued by this stuffy banker who seeks him out after the show. I was pleasantly surprised by how drawn he is to Nigel considering how different the two of them are. They make quite an odd couple, but for them, it works. I really enjoyed Jay’s drag persona, Jean Michel, nearly as much as I enjoyed Jay himself.

Once Nigel goes back to his day to day life in London, I was devastated for him. He got one fleeting taste of freedom, being able to do and love as he pleased, before being forced back into hiding. This made the middle part of the book very sad, but I had hope they’d find their way back into each other’s arms and I wasn’t disappointed. Although things aren’t all roses and sunshine for them, they manage to make it work in the best way they know how.

The Bohemian and the Banker is a roller coaster ride of emotional turmoil, taking you from embarrassed to happy to sad and everywhere in-between. A sweet and powerful love story, it will suck you in and carry you along until the very end, never giving you a chance to catch your breath.

More at 3.5 stars; better-than-usual for this genre, but it always seems like a cheat to have characters fall instantly into a deep and enduring love. I didn't really believe the attraction, but other than that it was good.
Lush and atmospheric, I wanted to run away to Paris and never sit in an office again. Both MCs are sweet and engaging in their own ways and their pleasure in each other's company and at every reunion is lovely to read. I was happy that everything wasn't magically resolved once they were together, that they tried to compromise for each other and that finally the resolution was relatively realistic and completely satisfactory.
I just adore everything this pair does, whether separately or together. They're wonderful writers and I think no one does M/M historical romance as they do.

I was captivated by the Bohemian atmosphere and the return to the more conservative British society after experiencing that. So well done and I adored the characters.

Well done, ladies.
Nigel is not an unusual character, but Jay is something else.

How they meet, interact, fall in love, grieve and hope for each other, lost and find each other, and come to terms with their own psyches and that of each lover, will keep you smiling with a tear in your eye.

This is a lovely, sympathetic and emotional journey where men of their kind are forced to deal with how to express their love depending on the country they are in. Ms. Dee handles it splendidly.

Wonderful historically and beautiful romantically.
